When I first began navigating life as an SEN mum, I often felt completely lost. The systems that were meant to help sometimes felt overwhelming, confusing and difficult to access. There were appointments, advice from different professionals, and so many new terms and approaches to understand. Like many parents and carers, I just wanted to find simple ways to support my child and make everyday life feel calmer and more manageable.
One of the things that made the biggest difference for us was discovering the power of visual supports. Simple tools like visual timetables, routine boards and communication cards helped bring clarity to our days. They helped reduce anxiety around transitions, made routines easier to understand, and allowed us to communicate in ways that felt more natural and reassuring.
Alongside this, I found comfort in creativity. Designing and creating artwork became a way to process our journey and build tools that were both practical and meaningful. What started as something personal quickly grew into something I realised could help others too.
This is how the AMARI initiative began — standing for Awareness, Mindfulness, Acceptance, Resources and Inclusion. Through AMARI, I hope to create visual supports that feel thoughtful, personal and accessible, while also offering small reminders of encouragement for parents, carers and families walking similar paths.
Every tool and print created here comes from a place of lived experience. My hope is that these resources help make daily routines clearer, communication easier, and homes and care spaces feel just a little more supported.
If you’re on this journey too, please know you’re not alone.
